The Detroit Tigers is one of the most popular teams of major league baseball that are playing currently. The team is based in the Detroit , Michigan . The team is one of the five teams in the central division of the American League. The team came into being in 1893 in the minor western league. The tigers have in recent times traded pitcher Ugueth Urbina and Ramon Martinez to the Philadelphia Phillies for Plácido Polanco. The Tigers had played in legendary Tiger Stadium since early in the 1900s, but in 2000 they moved into their brand-new stadium, Comerica Park . Comerica Park is best known for its cavernous outfield that makes games at Comerica Park exciting because of the number of doubles and triples that can be hit there. In 2005 the Tigers have planned to present handsome amount as prize in order to attract best players. The team has an attractive logo that is a tiger on the prowl crawling out of old English style blue D. The Tigers finished the 2005 regular season with a .438 win average, placing them in the middle of the American League Central, and miles ahead of the low point they hit back in 2003.
Tigers have captivated many Hall-of-Fame players in their history, including the great Al Kaline, Hank Greenberg and Ty Cobb. They have won multiple championships in their history, including their most recent in 1984, under manager Sparky Anderson. That team was led by outfielder Kirk Gibson and steady middle infielders Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell. The Tigers showed great consistency in the 1980s and had one of the best win-loss records overall for the decade. They exhibited there best performance and finally captivated fame by capturing a place in the Wild Card berth despite injuries and tragedies. The injuries were so high that they had to face a defeat once again that led Trammell to loose his job. The season 2005 was not a great season as they ended the season in 71- 91. Some of the imminent players that are in the roster are Harvey Keunn SS, Mark Fidrych RHP, Lou Whitaker 2B. Just recently Veteran left-hander Kenny Rogers has also joined the Tigers in late 2005, bringing 190 career wins and a 4.21 lifetime ERA to the club's 2006 rotation. The team includes players like Carlos Guillen who seem to be a perfect preseason choice for comeback player of the year. As he was an All-Star two years ago who experienced the 2005 season as an injured one as he received a severe right knee injury who is expected to start the 2006 season as an healthy player.
