Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are a Major League Baseball team that has shared a feeling of bitterness with their main rival is the New York Yankees. The franchise belongs to in the Eastern Division of the American League and is based in Boston , Massachusetts in the United States . The Red Sox have entered the 2006 season with a renewed roster, hauling only three positional starters from their 2004 championship squad. The most prominent features of the team has either been traded or left and new players have arrived. The franchise is now calmer than being colorful as it was earlier. What stayed the same, though, is probably more important for the Boston Red Sox. Honoring the earnest pitching staff they've had in latest reminiscence, the Red Sox, seemed well-armed to make a run at their fourth successive postseason appearance. In January of this year, it was announced that the famous player Bronson accepted a three-year contract with Red Sox and hence became a part of the team .

Sluggers Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are still around to wipe out discrepancies with one powerful swing, manager Terry Francona has been hired for a two-year contract extension through 2008, and general manager Theo Epstein keeps on to making moves in order construct a good team better, even if he did part with fun-loving extroverts Johnny Damon, Kevin Millar and Bronson Arroyo. This time Red Sox' defense is better, its rotation deeper with newcomer Josh Beckett joining Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield, Matt Clement and David Wells, and its bullpen more experienced. The Red Sox should compete in the AL East with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, who added key players. Boston has an entirely new starting infield. Second baseman Mark Loretta from San Diego and third baseman Mike Lowell from Florida are the major trades for 2006 season. Slick-fielding shortstop Alex Gonzalez signed as a free agent from the Marlins and Kevin Youkilis, a part-time player with Boston last season, is the new first baseman. . Loretta, Gonzalez and Lowell are pleasant and professional. Beckett and Tavarez are aggressive pitchers. Bard worked hard on catching Wakefield . Though they earned some significant players but they lost some imminent players too ,the Red Sox lost Bill Mueller in free agency to the Dodgers, and Kevin Millar was not offered arbitration and signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

Pedro Martinez took home his 2nd consecutive Cy Young award in 2000. The Red Sox drafted superstar slugger Manny Ramirez in 2001, who instantly became a success with the team. He hit three HRs in the first pitch at Fenway Park. But injuries to Nomar Garciaparra, Pedro Martinez and Jason Varitek nullified all the chances of Red Sox qualifying for postseason. However, despite the injuries that plagued the Red Sox players, the team remained in playoff contention. Moreover, Manager Jimy Williams was fired to be replaced by pitching Coach Joe Kerrigan.
