Oakland Athletics, arguably the second most successful franchise in the American League that is based upon a peak value. The Athletics are second to the New York Yankees for the record of success, with nine World Championships, fifteen pennants, thirteen division titles and one wild card slot. In 2005 the A’s as commonly known, finished in second in the American League West. Eric Chavez earned another Gold Glove at third base and slugged 27 homers with 91 RBIs. Mark Ellis rebounded from injury and led the team with a .316 batting average. Even though the A’s did not make to the playoffs, the franchise showed much promises. The franchise has played in Philadelphia, Kansas City and Oakland and four times they have produced great dynasties. Pitcher Huston Street was voted the American League Rookie of the year in 2005, shortstop Bobby Crosby won that honor the year before as both these athletes played for the Athletics. The third baseman Eric Chavez won the A.L. Gold Glove Award for the fifth straight season at the same position. The First star the franchise had was Nap Lajoe under the long time coach and owner of the Athletics; Connie Mack who owned the franchise from 1901 to 1950. Other notable players to play for the Athletics are Rube Waddell, Jack Coombs, Eddie Plank Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons.
