Oakland Athletics, arguably the second most successful franchise in the American League that is based upon a peak value. The Athletics are second to the New York Yankees for the record of success, with nine World Championships, fifteen pennants, thirteen division titles and one wild card slot. In 2005 the A’s as commonly known, finished in second in the American League West. Eric Chavez earned another Gold Glove at third base and slugged 27 homers with 91 RBIs. Mark Ellis rebounded from injury and led the team with a .316 batting average. Even though the A’s did not make to the playoffs, the franchise showed much promises. The franchise has played in Philadelphia, Kansas City and Oakland and four times they have produced great dynasties. Pitcher Huston Street was voted the American League Rookie of the year in 2005, shortstop Bobby Crosby won that honor the year before as both these athletes played for the Athletics. The third baseman Eric Chavez won the A.L. Gold Glove Award for the fifth straight season at the same position. The First star the franchise had was Nap Lajoe under the long time coach and owner of the Athletics; Connie Mack who owned the franchise from 1901 to 1950. Other notable players to play for the Athletics are Rube Waddell, Jack Coombs, Eddie Plank Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons.
The Athletics emerged as a very strong team in the new century. The A’s featured players like Jason Giambi, and Tim Hudson and the team was skilled in almost every category. A's Pitching Ace, Tim Hudson recorded his 20th victory in the season and helped the A’s to clinch the A.L. West Division title. In 2001, the A’s wavered and lost all the hopes of winning a division championship. But they become the contenders for the Wild Card. In contention for the Wild Card, the A’s became the best team in baseball running away with the Wild Card while posting a 102-60 record Jermaine Dye, Pitchers Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson, and Barry Zito also known as “The Big Three” became the leading players of the team.
The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is a baseball haven, with open and wide center and the stands that are built along the first and third base lines. Located in Oakland , California , the Coliseum is a football and baseball facility. Oakland Athletics are the tenants of the ballpark since 1968. The Oakland Raiders housed the stadium in two different eras from 1966-1981 and from 1995 to present. The park was inaugurated in 1966 for the Oakland Raiders, a NFL team. Currently the ballpark has the capacity to accommodate more than 60,000 people and looks very different than when it opened. The stadium hosted Major League Baseball All Star Game in 1987 and World Series in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1988, 1989 and 1990.
