Anaheim Angels

A Major league franchise based in Anaheim California, the franchise is aligned in the Western Division of the American League. The team was originally based in Los Angeles and known as the Los Angeles Angels, it started playing in 1961. Tragedies, late season collapse, post seasons chokes were the dreadful luck that followed the Angeles for almost 40 years until they had their first World Series title in 2002. The franchise has captured American League Pennants and five West Division titles in the same year. The angels have captivated Wild card berths and have appeared in six playoff games in 2002. Players like Troy Glaus and Garrett Anderson helped the team to take the Wild Card. On their way to championship they defeated the Yankees and the Twins in the American League playoffs and they took their title by beating San Francisco in seven games. In 2005 the Angeles defeated the Yankees in the Division Series in 5 games, but unfortunately they lost to the Chicago White Sox by five games in the American League Championship Series. Some of the notable players currently included in the team are Bartolo Colon, Vladimir Guerrero and retired numbers including Jim Fregosi and owner Gene Autry to name a few. The Angels got a CY Young award from Bartolo Colon and another MVP award from Guerrero to capture their second straight American Division title. Recently the team has announced that it would change its name from Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
